3 Days Trek-Forest Camp, Countryside, Hill Tribes, Hidden Caves

Trip Overview
Overnight camping (leave-hut or tent) in the Nam Ha National Protected Area hosted by local people (Khmu ethnic group). Test local food such as bamboo, leafs of different bushes etc. The second night you spend in an Akha home stay. Visit the “monkey forest”, caves and meet ethnic groups such as Akha, Hmong, Lahu and Khmu.

Itinerary
Day 1: Vieng Phoukha-Forest Camp. Approx. 5-6 hours
9:00 am start by a minivan or Tuk Tuk around 20 minutes stop where you start trekking. Walking through a little fields and an exciting with walking between through the steep rock and ascent and descent in the old growth forest in the Nam Ha National Protected Area after 3 hours of walking you will stop for Picnic lunch on the trail before arrive Tah Long village (Khmu Kwean). You will visit them about 20 minutes and continue through many kinds of forest such as: forestry, bamboo grove, and jungle forest. On the way you will an exciting with many kinds of bird sound (non-timber forest product). Around 3 pm you will finish for first day trekking at the Maamaint cave (Khmu ethnic name) area that around by old growth forest stay overnight camp near the cave, wait for guide prepare local food with bamboo, you will an exciting with to watch secretly the wildlife come to earn a living at night with the guide.

Day 2: Forest Camp-Ban Houy Hok. Approx. 5-6 hours
Rising early, you may be able to see or hear the sounds of the black-cheeked gibbon, monkey, forest chicken, after already preparing you things and breakfast you will start trekking through inside the Maamaint cave about 30 minutes and continue to Tah Leng (Akha village). Lunch will be prepared in the traditional way in the forest along the path. The guides know how to boil water and make soup within vessels made of bamboo. They will encourage you to take part in the preparation of the meal, showing you how to construct simple spoons and chopsticks from leaves and cups from bamboo. They will also brew a medicinal tea from wild plants collected along the way. Stay one more night in Ban Houy Hok (Akha Village) after dinner; you will receive an Akha ethnic massage from the women of the tribe. The giving of massage to visitors of the village is an Akha tradition.

Day 3: Ban Houy Hok-Vieng Phoukha. Approx. 4-5 hours
Before breakfast, if the weather is good and you are a bit of a morning person, feel free to take a walk around the village to see Akha preparing to work in the fields. In the morning there is sometimes a sea of fog hanging over the landscape, amongst which the villagers will be feeding their animals. Around 9 am, you will have a good 3 hours hike down on the dirt road before lunch, and then you will continue the trek until you arrive at the Vieng Phoukha valley. Here the trek concludes and a driver will be waiting to transport you back to town. There should be enough time in the day to travel onwards to the Thai border at Huay Xai if you choose.

Pricing:
The price ranges from US$85/Person for 8 + Pax to US$231/Person for 1 Pax.

The price varies according to the number of participants. The price decreases as more tourists book the same trek!

  • Please purchase handicrafts but do not purchase antiques.
  • Do not remove any archeological remains from the site of the ancient temples.
  • Always stay with the guides.
  • Do not use drugs.
