Experience the unique blend of nature and culture on this four-day adventure trek through the untouched jungles and remote village communities of Nam Ha NPA. Led by expert forest guides, you will learn about the indigenous lifestyle of local hunters while spending three days in the dense forest. You’ll sleep at banana leaf camps, engage in fishing and frog hunting, and explore deeper into Nam Ha NPA. This trek offers a chance to discover medicinal plants, observe animal behaviors, and cook with ingredients collected along the way using traditional methods.

Itinerary:
Day 1: Ban Prang – Ban Nam Khouy – Approx. 4-5 hours
After a briefing with your tour guide, depart from the office or your hotel to visit the morning market for food supplies. Head to Khmu villages along the main road to explore the culture and traditions of the Khmu minority in Ban Prang. Your guide will lead you through the village, sharing insights about Khmu experiences. Begin hiking from Ban Prang to Ban Nam Khouy, enjoying the natural beauty of Nam Ha NPA. Stop to forage edible plants for a picnic lunch cooked using jungle methods like banana leaves and bamboo pipes. Arrive at the Lahu minority village around 3:00 PM, in time for village sightseeing and enjoying the sunset. Explore Lahu culture and traditions.Note: No toilets available; bathing requires walking to a small stream.

Day 2: Ban Nam Khouy – Jungle Camp – Approx. 5-6 hours
After breakfast with tea or coffee, trek from Ban Nam Khouy to the jungle campsite in the Nam Ha NPA valley. This trek takes you into the primary forest, where you can enjoy nature and learn about edible vegetation, herbs, and animals. Experience a unique trek through the untouched jungle, following wildlife trails and learning jungle survival skills and medicinal plants. The trek includes a climb to 1,000 meters above sea level. Continue on the trail to the campsite, arriving around 4:00 PM.

Day 3: Jungle Camp – Ban Nalan – Approx. 4-5 hours
Early in the morning, consider a jungle safari to listen to bird songs and take a short trek before breakfast. Trek downhill to the Nam Ha River, stopping midday for a Lao jungle picnic. Continue through the wild jungle landscape, crossing rivers and navigating fallen trees. Hike through dense jungle, with fields of cardamom and rattan, banana plants, and bamboo groves. After lunch, continue trekking to Ban Nalan for a homestay. Upon arrival, explore the culture and traditions of the Khmu minority group. Before dinner at 7:00 PM, relax or swim in the river, then participate in a Baci ceremony. Enjoy traditional Khmu performances and a bonfire before retiring to bed in the comfort of a Khmu homestay. 

Day 4: Ban Nalan – Chalernsouk Village or Nalan – Nahome – Namlue Village – Approx. 3-6 hours
In the morning, visit the village, enjoy Lao coffee or local tea in a bamboo cup, and try crossbow shooting and hand-pounding rice. After breakfast, choose between two hiking options:

  • Option 1 (3-4 hours):Hike uphill through the forest, with a traditional lunch prepared at the end of the Nalan village route. Then, enjoy an easy two-hour hike down the mountain slope to Chalernsouk village, where a tuk-tuk driver will shuttle you back to Luang Namtha.
  • Option 2 (5-6 hours):Follow the Nam Ha River to Ban Nalan Tai and through cultivated areas of the Khmu and Lanten minority groups. The Lanten group still wears traditional clothes, makes their own textiles, dyes clothes naturally, and makes bamboo paper (seasonally). After lunch and visiting the village, hike up a steep hill into the jungle. This challenging trail offers beautiful forest landscapes and canopies. The final descent passes through upland cultivated areas by Ban Nam Lue. This trail can be slippery after rainfall. End the trek and return to Luang Namtha in the afternoon by tuk-tuk.
