More than a hundred local restaurants and bars offer a variety of cuisines, including Lao, Chinese, Thai, and Western food. Choose one of the restaurants along the main road. Excellent Lao coffee and baguettes are available throughout the day. Some famous local dishes and beverages include Kao Soi (soft rice noodle soup), bitter bamboo shoot soup, rattan dipping sauce from Luang Namtha’s fresh market, Lao Hai (rice wine in a jar), and the ubiquitous Lao Lao.
Luang Namtha Night Market Located in the town center, the Luang Namtha night market features unique local foods and handicrafts from different ethnic minority groups. The night market opens every evening and is a great place to enjoy typical Lao dishes. Handicrafts from Tai Dam, Tai Deang, Khmu, Tai Lue, Akha, and Lanten are available.
