Lahu Authentic Experience & Forest Camp 3-Day Trek in Nam Ha NPA
Trip Overview:
This unique adventure offers an immersive experience of both nature and culture. The campsite is nestled deep in the jungle, where you’ll enjoy wild, organic food fresh from nature, nightly campfires, and wildlife spotting. You will witness stunning hilltop views and learn jungle survival skills, including foraging for food, building shelters, and utilizing natural resources. Trek through the primary rainforests of Nam Ha NPA and savor authentic Lao food prepared by your guides using traditional bushcraft methods. Visit remote hill tribe communities, enjoy fantastic scenery at sunset, and discover their rich culture by spending a night at a homestay or eco-lodge as a guest of the Lahu tribe.
Itinerary:
Day 1: Ban Prang to Ban Nam Khouy – Approx. 4-5 hours
At 9:00 am, meet with your tour guide for a briefing, then depart from the office or your hotel to visit the morning market for food supplies. Head to Khmu villages along the main road and explore the culture and traditions of the Khmu minority group in Ban Prang. Your guide will lead you through the village, sharing insights into Khmu life. Begin your hike up the mountain from Ban Prang to Ban Nam Khouy, enjoying the natural beauty of Nam Ha NPA. We’ll stop to forage for edible vegetation and prepare our picnic lunch using jungle methods like banana leaves and bamboo pipes. Arrive in the village of the Lahu minority group around 3:00 pm, in time for sightseeing and enjoying the viewpoint before sunset. Explore the culture and traditions of the Lahu community. Note: No toilet facilities; bathing involves walking down to a small stream.
Day 2: Ban Nam Khouy to Forest Camp – Approx. 5-6 hours
After breakfast, tea, or coffee, start trekking from Ban Nam Khouy to the jungle campsite in Nam Ha NPA. This trek takes you through the primary forest, offering opportunities to forage for edible vegetation and learn about herbs and wildlife. This day provides a unique experience of trekking through the untouched jungle, following wildlife trails, and learning jungle survival skills and medicinal plants. The trek climbs to an elevation of 1,000 meters above sea level. As you continue, you’ll find yourself deep in an ancient forest, surrounded by giant trees and the sounds of wildlife. Arrive at the camping area around 3:30 pm to set up camp for the night.
Day 3: Forest Camp to Ban Nam Ha –Approx. 4-5 hours
Early in the morning, you might enjoy a jungle safari or wildlife spotting, listening to birds sing and taking a short trek around the campsite before breakfast. Start trekking downhill under the shade of huge trees to the Nam Ha valley until you reach the river. Around midday, stop near the river to collect edibles for a picnic lunch, then continue hiking through fields of cardamom and rattan adorned with huge banana plants. After lunch, continue trekking through open forest to Ban Nam Ha and cross the Nam Ha River. A driver will be waiting to pick you up and return to Luang Namtha.
