Xieng Khaeng Region
Xieng Khaeng, a stunning but largely unexplored region just a few hours from Muang Sing town, remains nestled between mountains and the Mekong River. Its 13 villages, predominantly Akha and Tai Lue, retain strong traditional roots due to their remote location. As the Mekong River flows from China into the Green Triangle near Myanmar, it traverses steep canyons before slowing down further south. Access to this area is possible by boat from Xieng Kok in Long District or by a recently rebuilt gravel road over the mountains from Muang Sing. Travelers can discover lush green mountains adorned with waterfalls and caves, alongside remote villages that uphold their cultural traditions. The scenic Xieng Khaeng village offers an opportunity to explore a beautiful stretch of the Mekong by boat.
